Autism

Autism is first diagnosed in early childhood and affects a child’s normal development in language, social interaction and behavior. An estimated 1 in 100 children in the U.S. are affected by Autism, making it the third most common developmental disability in the country. As Autism carries into adulthood, these individuals continue to face the challenging behaviors and symptoms associated with Autism.

What are the symptoms of Autism?
Autism is one of the only neurological disorders entirely diagnosed through behavioral symptoms. It is often discovered in the first few years of life when parents become concerned about their child’s behavior. Some of the early signs and symptoms of autism include:

Failing to smile as an infant
Delay or reversal in behavioral development
Loss of speech, babbling or poor social skills
People with autism, especially children, often experience frustration with being misunderstood and have a tough time communicating their needs, which can often lead to acting out or engaging in self-destructive behavior.

Treatment for Autism
There is no known cure for Autism, but a combination of treatments and approaches help reduce the challenges associated with the condition. With treatment, we have seen significant improvements in autistic behaviors like language, social skills and performance in school.

Southwest Neurofeedback uses neurofeedback-based therapies to complement traditional social and behavioral treatments. The combination of approaches generally improves the results from traditional treatments and helps families and children struggling with these conditions.

Please contact us today to schedule an appointment to discuss our individualized treatment options for Autism.
